As of November 1st, three Chicago area facilities are nearing completion of their renovations - all featuring Better Billy Bunkers throughout. A brief overview of each project:
Glen Oak Country Club
Under the direction of Rick Jacobson, ASGCA and Doug Myslinksi, ASGCA, the complete bunker renovation on this Tom Bendelow design has been a huge success. BBB licensed installer Hollembeak Construction has served as the general contractor on the project which included the re-shaping and installation of BBB on over 120,000 s/f of bunkers. Superintendent Andy Dauksas not only trailed BBB for a year prior to the renovation, but also allowed his membership to play from and choose the bunker sand to be used (Pro-Angle by Sidley). If given the opportunity, don't pass us the chance to play this gem.
Prairie Landing Golf Club
Licensed installer Golf Creations has done an outstanding job with wholesale changes to the Dupage Airport Authority's RTJ II layout. Consulting architect Bruce Charlton, ASGCA and superintendent Tony Kalina executed their vision for a more playable and more maintainable course to perfection. With the addition of acres of new bent grass, Tony has aptly coined the Twitter hashtag "#BetterWithBent". All bunkers were rebuilt using the BBB method and Kalina noted "After rain events, my team will be able to address routine maintenance instead of worrying about bunker repairs." That statement is music to our ears.
Ridgemoor Country Club
TDI Golf is the BBB licensed installer and general contractor for the dramatic changes at Ridgemoor Country Club. Doug Myslinski pointed out that the use of BBB provided the opportunity to flash sand without worrying superintendent Josh Rigsby and his staff would face a maintenance nightmare in the future. Providing architects flexibility in design is a huge benefit of the BBB method. Also, the inclusion of Better Billy Bunkers and Pro Angle sand insures the members at RCC will enjoy the most playable and consistent bunkers possible - no matter the weather.
