Biloxi, MS - When the Champions Tour visits Fallen Oak for the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic later this month, they will be greeted with numerous improvements following extensive renovations in 2014. Certified Installer Medalist Golf completed the work at this Tom Fazio design which included the installation of Better Billy Bunkers throughout.
The folks at Fazio Design were extremely successful in improving surface drainage, reducing the total square footage of bunker area, and making the existing bunkers more player friendly. In an interview in late 2014, Director of Grounds Matt Hughes, GCSAA: "When we had rain before of anywhere from an inch to two inches, the bunkers would wash out, which means all the sand would migrate to the bottom of the bunker," Hughes said. "We'd have to get out there and spend a day or two shoveling them back out. Now, we get one or two inches or rain and it looks like it's never been rained on before. It makes a big difference on maintenance and playability for the golfers here at Fallen Oak to enjoy."
One should not pass up the opportunity to play the new and improved Fallen Oak when traveling to the Gulf Coast (with a stay at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino, of course.) Matt Hughes and his staff have the course "tournament ready" year-round!
